The convention was marked by joy and respect, with Bart Barber leading as Convention President. The highlight of the convention was the 83 men and women who were commissioned as IMB missionaries to take the Gospel to the nations. The issue of women pastors was discussed, with a majority favoring an amendment to our bylaws that would give more clarity to the fact that Southern Baptists believe the office of pastor is to be held only by men as qualified by Scripture but falling short of the required 2/3 majority. The Baptist Faith and Message still upholds male pastors, and a process is in place for non-compliant churches.
We, as Southern Baptists, acknowledge our imperfections but remain united in our love for Jesus, commitment to His Word, and unwavering dedication to the Great Commission. By centering our focus on these core values, we aim to be a powerful force for advancing the Kingdom of God and spreading the message of salvation to all nations.
